Safer nighttime driving. BMW Night Vision, part of BMW ConnectedDrive, can see in the dark and warns the driver of any approaching danger that is located outside of the range of the headlights.
Wherever your journey takes you, you should always have an eye on everything. At all times – and this means when you are behind the wheel of your BMW at night, too. A person walking on the side of a dark country lane or an animal on the road ahead: BMW Night Vision displays the image recorded by a thermal camera and warns you directly of the risk of collision with persons or with an additional symbol in the optional Head-Up Display. This means you are warned of possible risks much earlier and can react to them much more quickly. Even if you are momentarily dazzled by oncoming traffic.
In favourable conditions, the system recognises objects at distances between approx. 15 and 100 metres. The video data are analysed within split seconds and BMW Night Vision determines whether there is a potential risk for pedestrians and warns you with an eye-catching yellow symbol on the display. An entirely new feeling of safety at night: Night Vision from BMW ConnectedDrive.
An infrared camera positioned behind the kidneys reveals objects up to 300 metres ahead of the vehicle. Pedestrians and cyclists are identified and highlighted on the Control Display. Three processors simultaneously calculate all movements outside of the vehicle and the course of the BMW 5 Series Sedan. Should the system detect any danger of a collision, the driver receives a warning on the Control Display or on the Head-Up Display in the form of an icon that shows the position of the person outside of the vehicle.
